Problem 583

Summary: absence of neutron thermalization

Description machulin 2004-02-17 06:20:55 CET
The effect of neutron thermalization on medium molecules in
hydrogen content mediums (like water, organic scintillators (HnCm)) is not
taken into account now in geant4 packet.
For reactor and solar neutrino experiments (like Borexino, Chooz
,Kamland etc.) with big hydrogen-content scintillators the neutron
thermalization is necessary to include to obtain the correct value of
neutron detection efficiency.
So, the proposal is to add the neutron thermalization process
into geant4 hadron part.
I think, such addition will be also usefull for dosimetry, medical
and reactor geant4 applications.

This is not small. I'll move this one to the requirements data-base.

Many greetings,

Hans-Peter.

Themal neutron scatter from nuclei with chemically bonded atoms will be include
to Geant4, which based on thermal neutron scattering files from the evaluated
nuclear data files ENDF/B-VI, Release2
