Problem 498

Summary: There are not any Auger electrons after photoeffect in Xe, Kr....
Product: Geant4 Reporter: porosev
Component: processes/electromagnetic/lowenergyAssignee: alfonso.mantero
Status: RESOLVED WORKSFORME
Severity: critical CC: alfonso.mantero, Serguei.Sadilov
Priority: P1
Version: 5.1
Hardware: Other
OS: Windows

Description porosev 2003-06-05 06:43:19 CEST
I simulated space resolution of gas filled detector (Xe, Kr) 1-10 bar. The space
resolution drops down to 0 when quanta energy comes close to K,L..-shels. It
means that there are NOT ANY auger for this media. To check it you can easily
create a gas filled box and measure center of gravity of energy deposit.
Exp.data could be found at NIM A252 (1986) 239-249
Additionally, in current version the direction of photoelectrons is the same as
direction of incedent photons. For low energy physics it is wrong and could
leads to errors for low pressure mixtures... Why not realized angle distribution
of photoelectrons?! It is simple task that could be set as option at a task
compilation.

Sorry I was wrong! Unfortunately Auger electrons are OFF as default and
It's not mentioned that they should be ON anywhere.
Comment 2 porosev 2003-06-09 22:39:59 CEST
I am sorry, but even with Auger ON the space resolution drops close to ZERO...
it means the wrong number of Auger electrons are generated!

The problem will be re-assigned to the developer of the related physics feature,
Alfonso Mantero (mantero@ge.infn.it). Unfortunately, because of a bug in Geant4
Problem Report System, I cannot re-assign the problem to Alfonso Mantero,
and I ask the Geant4 PRS responsible (in cc in this reply) to fix the
reassignement.
Best regards,
Maria Grazia Pia

Alfonso Mantero, the developer of the Auger code, will take care of
investigating the problem report concerning the Auger effect.
An improved version of the angular distribution of the photoelectric process is
foreseen in the medium-term future, compatible with the existing resources in
the Geant4 Collaboration for design, development and testing and other
existing user requirements.
Best regards,
Maria Grazia Pia
